First Impressions

Upon first glance Epel appears as a frail, effeminate boy. He's naturally good looking, but is likely wearing light make-up on top of that. He speaks softly, almost nervously, and politely.

Info

In actuality, Epel is a country boy through and through. He wishes to be tough and strong, and speaks roughly with a thick accent and dialect. (I tend to mix something of a rural English accent and a US southern/"country" type dialect for him.) He has a somewhat short temper, and is quick to anger when it comes to his appearance in particular. However, upon entering Night Raven College, his soul was sorted into Pomefiore (much to his chagrin). The Housewarden Vil has taken him under his wing, and has been trying to teach Epel the importance of appearances and the unique strength one can have even without being a muscular jock-type. Because of this, Epel tries to school his tone and dialect and as a result can seem a bit conflicted or even withdrawn at times.

I mostly play him from after Book 5 (but before Book 6), so while he's not entirely against the idea of playing up his own strengths (in this case, his cute appearance) he does still try to remain true to himself. Especially if Vil or Rook isn't around, he'll be more laidback about slipping up.

Abilities & Inventory

This will be updated once Book 6 is out officially in English!

Epel is a first year at Night Raven College, which is a prestigious 4 year mage academy. The only ones allowed to enroll are people who have the potential to be powerful mages. As such, he's capable of performing magic, albeit not at an expert level yet.

In order to avoid overblotting*, Epel requires the use of his magic pen. As a student of Night Raven College, he pretty much always has this on him. It also functions as a normal writing pen. He also likely has his smart phone on him, as well as potentially an apple or two.

*Blot is an ink-like substance created as a byproduct of magic use. The amount of blot created by a spell is influenced by a person's emotions, with negative emotions like anger, fear, and sadness causing more blot to be created. Blot will accumulate inside the caster of a spell unless they use a magestone to collect it. Every person has a natural amount of blot they can tolerate on their own and this amount generally does not increase or decrease with the amount of mana a user has. Blot naturally fades with rest and self-care. If the amount of blot accumulated inside the caster exceeds their blot tolerance, overblot occurs.

Overblot is a negative state that occurs when a mage accumulates more blot than they can tolerate. The blot then manifests as a Phantom representing the negative emotions of the caster. The Phantom will then drain the mage's magic until it "runs out," causing the mage to disappear and leaving only the Phantom remaining. In order to end the overblot, the caster must be separated from the Phantom. If the phantom and the mage can be separated, the phantom will disappear and the excess blot will crystalize.
